Our Story
Hi, we are Katie & Joanna! We are not only co-owners of Cozy Bee Nursery, but mother and daughter. My mom, Katie, raised me and my three older brothers with a love, respect, and knowledge of gardening and taking care of the earth. We spent our summers in the garden and working around our small farm. We learned to grow, process, and preserve our own food. Lessons that would last a lifetime and grow a passion.
Every Mother’s Day, my grandma, mom, and I would spend a day and visit multiple different plant nurseries and filling the car with plants and flowers. This was one of my all time favorite days and created so many memories between us. My mom would give me $20 and a section of her garden to create my own space. This tradition is really the beginning of Cozy Bee Nursery. It grew our love for not only flowers and plants, but for each other as well.
My mom has said for as long as I could remember, that she would love to make gardening her career. And in the winter of 2022, I realized that I had been telling myself the same thing; I would love to make gardening my career. So we started dreaming and planning and in March of 2023, Cozy Bee Nursery was born.
We decided to spend the summer of 2023 transforming an old horse stable into a business space. We were blessed with family who believed in our dream and volunteered many long, hot, dirty hours to helping our dream become reality. We opened for our first time in October 2023 with a small pumpkin patch and were blown away with community support.
As we planned for our first spring plant sale in 2024, we put up a greenhouse, continued to renovate constantly, and were suddenly surrounded by hundreds of plants that were ready to sell. In May 2024 we opened our first plant sale and saw our dream come to life. We realized that our passion was bringing high quality, affordable plants to our community.
I cannot talk about the success of Cozy Bee Nursery, without talking about the tremendous help of our “Worker Bee”, my dad, Vance. Our business would not be where it is today without his countless hours of help. In May of 2024, he spent hours and hours working, writing, and revising a $15,000 grant that was awarded to us in August. This grant has gone to a tractor, greenhouse, water tanks, and irrigation. This grant has made it able to us to grow and expand our business. We are so thankful for our Worker Bee!
We continue to grow, revise, and perfect our business. We have so many plans for our future. We look forward to adding honey bees, classes, and additional events. Our goal is to create an environment and experience that brings joy. We are so thankful for the support and encouragement we have received so far. We invite you on our journey and hope to see you soon at Cozy Bee Nursery.
